NEOBARI is a newly-coined word. It’s made up of two parts derived from different languages, which makes it a bastard word.
That’s rather appropriate.
“Neo” comes from Greek and means “new” - as in neologism, a new word or phrase.
“bari” comes from the Japanese word shibari, which I’m told means the act of tying, wrapping, or binding. In the West it’s come to mean the art of Japanese Bondage, although “kinbaku” is perhaps the proper Japanese word for that.
So “Neobari” means “new tying” - rope bondage that draws inspiration, ideas and techniques from eastern and western cultures to make something new and even occasionally to advance the art of rope a little further.
Neobari bondage is NOT “new shibari”, it isn’t shibari at all. It might borrow some things from shibari, but there again it might not.
