It’s more difficult to tease out the mix of influences here. Just about all the ropework is based on the “rope corset” technique - that’s Japanese in the doubled rope and dependence on the lark’s head, but as far as I know the rope corset is much more a western than an eastern idea.. There again, the end-to-end joins of one rope to another is pure Japan, although the exact method I’ve used to do it isn’t!
The weaving of the over-shoulder ropes through the back of the upper-body wraps has a japanese look about it (I’m thinking samurai armour and that kind of thing from Kurosawa films) but I’m not at all sure that it relates to shibari / kinbaku traditions. And of course the arm position is completely western!
